Bayberry root bark has traditionally been used for its antibiotic, fever-reducing and , in high doses, vomit inducing effects. Bayberry's anti-biotic properties are the result of the presence of myricitrin, a flavonoid glycoside that acts as a toxic agent against bacteria. Myricitrin has also been shown to stimulate bile secretion.
