The service from these folks keeps getting better. They were particularly accommodating of my need to have this order very urgently. Very friendly and helpful.
DIET: Firstly be aware of what you are eating, - yes it really does make a difference. Reducing or eliminating foods that are often mucous forming from your diet for 3-6 weeks can give you some notable relief from excess snot and congestion – eg dairy products, sugar. Avoiding those foods you know you are intolerant (or allergic) to is important to ease the pressure on your immune system while it is working to fix your body. If you’re not sure, or suspect you may have food intolerances or allergies, it’s really helpful to know what those are so we recommend getting some tests done.
There is so much dietary advice out there these days, but the general rule of thumb is to eat plenty of fresh vegetables, some fresh fruit, and wholefoods as unprocessed as possible. Make sure you’re getting quality fats and proteins in your diet, as amongst other crucial roles in the body; these help to curb sugar cravings.
XYLITOL: Xylitol is a white substance that looks and tastes like sugar, but is a natural sugar alcohol which is found in many fruits and vegetables. Our body even produces small amounts of it! It has been well researched for over 40 years for upper respiratory and oral health, and as a natural sweetener, thousands of studies attest to its’ safety and effectiveness in these areas.
A natural nasal spray such as XLEAR, which contains xylitol, is ideal to keep the nasal passages and sinuses moist, reduce congestion and inflammation, and wash away contaminants. When bacteria is exposed to xylitol, it can no longer adhere to the lining of your nasal passages and studies have shown using Xlear inhibits bacteria and helps to treat sinus and ear infections, allergies and asthma, and may also help treat nasty bugs – washing these out of the nasal passages helping reduce their rapid colonisation and spread.
XLEAR is safe for daily use, there is no risk of dependency and it does not damage collagen or delicate nasal tissue in the nose.
HOMOEOPATHY: Many well known Homoeopathic remedies are convenient to use while you have symptoms. There are some excellent combination remedies available which treat, sinus congestion, coughs, colds and hayfever/allergies, they are easy to carry with you and safe for the whole family to use. Ideal for those who either can’t swallow tablets or don’t like the taste of herbal mixtures, these remedies have no taste.
VITAMIN C: An essential vitamin that we cannot make, we need to ingest Vitamin C from external sources for our health and well being. Our immune system needs it, it assists us to respond effectively to allergens, and studies have shown that we actually absorb more Vitamin C when we are ill. Keep dosing up with Vitamin C during the Winter and the Spring to help take your immunity up a few notches. There are many good food sources of Vitamin C, but you may need 2000mg or more each day while your body is in ‘defence’ mode! Combining it with the bioflavonoid Quercetin can be an extremely effective way to treat sinus, hayfever or allergy issues if you’re wanting some drug free relief from debilitating symptoms.
QUERCETIN: Quercetin is a bioflavonoid which is commonly found in fruits and vegetables, but especially in especially onions, apples and citrus. Quercetin is also available as a supplement which is often used for its’ respiratory system benefits at this time of year. It appears to have an antihistamine effect which provides relief from the inflammation, stuffy sinuses, runny noses, watery eyes – all of those irritating allergy symptoms, without any side effects. It works synergistically with Vitamin C, and is available in a liposomal liquid form also.
Finally, make sure you keep up your water intake and keep yourself hydrated, it really does make a huge difference in assisting your body to work optimally. (don’t forget the fresh lemon, garlic and manuka honey hot drinks – they are so soothing & are great to help fight off any bugs too)
