Curcumin, the "good stuff" in turmeric, is very hard for the body to absorb. Black Pepper or Piperine are often added to increase absoprtion because it heats up the digestive system, but there are better alternatives.

Our Turmeric Formula contains Ginger, which is "hotter" than Black Pepper. Shogaol, which is produced when Ginger is dried, has a Scoville Heat Unit rating of 160,000, compared to Black Pepper which is at 100,000. Additionally, Ginger does not irritate the digestive tract, as Black Pepper can. Finally, Ginger has been shown to have epigenetic properties whose benefits are only beginning to be understood.

It is quite possible that Turmeric comes from the Latin terra merita or “worthy Earth.” Many of the names of Turmeric, like Uma, are names or referrences to beautiful and powerful women because it is the herb most attributed to enhance their inner and outer beauty and power.
