• Raw fresh food juicing is a fantastic way to support the liver and helps the detoxification process immensely.
• Vegetable juices containing dark leafy greens such as kale and beetroot are high in antioxidants which assist with free radical neutralisation. The bitterness of the kale assists with increasing the livers function and secretion of bile.
• Lemon juice, grapefruit juice stimulate liver processes by causing contraction therefore release of bile into the gut.
• Reduce lipid intake in the diet. The liver has a key role in breaking fats down and reducing the overload can assist with repairing liver tissues and reducing a fatty liver experience!
• Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and toxic overload.
• Bitter tasting foods on the tongue will assist by stimulating liver function and digestive juices.
• Bile is essential so using herbs to stimulate bile production such as Globe Artichoke, Dandelion, Schizandra and Milk Thistle can assist greatly, however it is advisable to speak to a health practitioner to ensure you are taking the right herb. If you are fatigued and feel a toxic build up in your body, then pushing the liver into an extreme detoxification can be quite overwhelming for the body and the mind, with a strong incidence to feel very unwell initially
• Nutrients to assist detoxification pathways include
– B vitamins and specifically B9, B12 and B6
– Amino Acids that include methionine, orthonine and glutathione also assisting in conversion of homocysteine in the blood into useful amino acids that the liver requires to detoxify efficiently.
– High homocysteine levels in the blood are inflammatory and can create cardiovascular system issues by damaging the blood vessels.
